Siemens 200-Amp Service Replacementin Hayes Barton, Raleigh
A homeowner in Hayes Barton, Raleigh, called us after the breaker at the outside meter and several breakers in the house panel burned out. We carried out a full service replacement, installing a new meter base combo, a new interior panel and a 200-amp service.
The new interior panel with its breakers installed and a label in place at the completion of the work.
Before and After
The original equipment as found, before the full service replacement began. The new interior panel with its breakers installed and a label in place at the completion of the work.
What We Found
The breaker at the outside meter and breakers in the interior panel had burned out. The existing meter base and its main breaker were undersized and not rated for the house, and the air conditioning unit appeared to be drawing more power than the service could supply.
What We Did
We replaced the outside meter and meter base with a Siemens meter base combo that provides a 200-amp service.
We replaced the interior electrical panel with a new Siemens panel.
We completed the wiring at the wall opening as part of the full service replacement.
We installed a Square D whole-house surge protector at the homeowner's request.
We labelled the circuits on the new panel, including those for the kitchen, bedrooms and laundry.
We recorded the circuit layout in a handwritten panel directory for the homeowner.
The Result
The home now has a 200-amp service sized for the demands of the house, with a new interior panel on which every circuit is clearly labelled. A whole-house surge protector now also protects the electrical system.
The work was permitted and passed inspection.
