Outlet, GFCI & Switch Installation Overview

Outlets and switches are the parts of your electrical system you touch every day, and the ones that wear out first. We replace worn and loose outlets, add GFCI protection where code calls for it, install new outlets where you need power, and swap switches for dimmers, timers and smart controls. Every device is wired to the right circuit, tightened, and tested before we leave.

  • GFCI Where Code Requires It

Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry and outdoors get ground-fault protection that trips in milliseconds.

  • Tight, Tested Connections

Loose backstab connections are moved to screw terminals; every device is checked with a tester.

  • The Right Switch

Dimmers, 3-way, timers and smart switches matched to the lights they control.

When To Schedule Outlet, GFCI or Switch Work

A worn outlet or a switch that runs warm is a small job today and a bigger one if it is left. Book an electrician if any of these sound familiar:

How Outlet and Switch Work Gets Done Properly

Every outlet and switch job in Raleigh, NC starts with the circuit behind it. A new device on a damaged or overloaded circuit just moves the problem.

Checked Behind the WallWe look at the box, the wire and the circuit before we install the device.

  1. 1

    Circuit and Box Check

We turn off the circuit, open the box, and check the wire, the connections and the box itself. Burned, aluminum or undersized wiring is pointed out before anything is installed.

    Power confirmed off Wiring inspected
  2. 2

    Install and Connect

The new outlet, GFCI or switch goes in with screw-terminal connections, the correct line and load wiring, and a tight mount to the box.

    Test Every Device

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Common questions from Raleigh homeowners about outlet, GFCI and switch work.

Still have questions?

Our Raleigh electrical experts are here to help you every step of the way.

Real People. Real Answers.
We're here when you need us.
How much does it cost to install a GFCI outlet in Raleigh?

A GFCI outlet installed or replaced in an existing box is $65–$120. A standard outlet is $35–$65. A new outlet location that needs a new box and wire run is quoted after we see it.

Where do I need GFCI outlets?

Bathrooms, kitchens, garages, laundry areas, unfinished basements, crawl spaces and every outdoor outlet. If your home has none in those places, it is worth adding them, and replacements there must include it.

My GFCI will not reset. Is it broken?

Sometimes the GFCI itself has worn out, and sometimes it is doing its job and something on the circuit is leaking current to ground. We test both and tell you which one it is.

Can you replace two-prong outlets with three-prong ones?

Yes. Where a ground wire is present or can be run, you get a grounded outlet. Where it is not, code allows a GFCI outlet labeled "No Equipment Ground", which protects people even without a ground.

Do you install smart switches and dimmers?

Yes. Smart switches are $65–$75 and dimmers $65–$75. Many smart switches need a neutral wire in the box, so we check that first and tell you your options.

How long does it take?

About 15 to 30 minutes per outlet or switch swap, so several are usually done in one visit. New outlet locations take longer, depending on the wire run.
